a drug

There’s something about the addiction that is obsessive and uncontrollable, so addictive that at first all you can see are the bright pretty stars and how good it makes you feel.

You go on and on, letting it seep into the cracks of your life until one day you have to go without and you realize it kills you to not have it.

The withdrawal, the need to return to that way of life is excruciating.

And so you return, but this time with a darker understanding of the drug, and at a price.

The habit is expensive, in all senses of the word, and you begin to sacrifice the things you held most dear to hold onto it. Throwing away the most valuable possessions, in all senses of the word, to keep coming back.

And you try to go without again, and again, and again, making up reasons to return

Until you find that it is really only your own resolve that can keep you away

so hold your resolve

there is nothing the mind can not conquer

even if it is your own heart
